Boeing workers celebrate grand opening of its 787 interiors facility in Ladson
Boeing employees welcomed the grand opening of a brand new Interior Responsibility Center with music, screams and giant thunder sticks. Keith Brant was one of 140 new workers in attendance. “Man, this is a big deal. This is a beginning of a new chapter in Boeing and Charleston,” said Brant.
The celebration of the new Ladson facility that will produce interiors for Boeing’s 787 planes comes a day after a tentative deal was struck between Boeing and the International Association of Machinists Union.

Ross Bogue, Vice President and General Manager for Boeing Commercial Airplanes Fabrication, said more than 50,000 people applied to work at the new facility, but only 140 spots could be filled. He said he is pleased with the choices.
“We think we’ve got the best team there is to do what it is we need to do to get it done, which is to build and integrate and install the world’s best airplane interior on the world’s best airplane,” said Bogue.

Students from a nearby elementary school played and chanted with the Boeing workers as the gates opened to what officials say is “a new beginning.”
The new center is located in Ladson, about 15 miles from the Boeing 787 Final Assembly Facility in North Charleston.
