Clemson season reaches its low point in Columbia

COLUMBIA, SC — Shortly after losing his third straight game to USC, a dejected Dabo Swinney said dropping a game to your rival is the lowest of the lows in coaching. Swinney’s Tigers only managed 153 yards of total offense, and for most of the game were dominated in a 34-13 loss to the Gamecocks at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia.

“When you win ‘em it’s the highest of the highs, when you lose them it is the lowest of the lows,” Swinney said. “We’ve lost three in a row and I’ve got to live with that. We all have to live with that, starting with me.”

Clemson has been outscored 97-37 in the past three games against its arch rival. The last time USC won three in a row in the series was 1968, 1969 and 1970.

“I don’t like it worth a dadgum, that’s for sure,” Swinney said. “I can’t stand it. But, at some point you gotta, you know, you gotta give them credit. They’ve played well. The last couple of years they have had good teams and they’ve played well.”

Clemson lost its third straight to USC Saturday night

Clemson has lost three of its past four games and will try to regroup for next weekend’s ACC Championship game against Virginia Tech.  That game will kick off at 8:00 Saturday night in Charlotte.
