SPA president gives State of the Port Address

Maritime leaders in South Carolina are meeting on the coast of Charleston today to discuss the current state of the Port of Charleston. State Ports Authority President and CEO Jim Newsome will give his State of the Port address to the Propeller Club of Charleston, the largest membership organization representing maritime in the city. Newsome is expected to talk about the end of the summer container volume rebound from that same time the year before, as well as the future effects of a worrisome economy.

The port is anticipating a strong year, especially since the announcement of two of the top credit reporting agencies, Moody’s Investors Service and Standard and Poor, affirmed the port was in solid financial position. The agencies cited the port’s strong financial management, high debt service coverage and competitive advantages relative to other ports in the region.
