SPA, Corps of Engineers sign agreement
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Charleston District, and the South Carolina State Ports Authority are signing an agreement today that highlights the partnership between the two. The State Ports Authority is able to fulfill its mission of handling international commerce and driving economic development to the state with the help the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The Corp’s Charleston District helps enable the largest ships on the East Coast to call the Port of Charleston on a regular basis. A Project Participation Agreement is strengthening the partnership between the Corps of Engineers and the SPA because is formalizes their cooperation and cost sharing on significant improvements to a local dredge disposal site. The project will raise the dikes at the disposal site, tacking on another 20 years of use at the site.
