McMaster: Agreement close in SC, NC river dispute (AUDIO)

SC Attorney General Henry McMaster says that an agreement may be close in the ongoing water dispute between the Carolinas.  The Associated Press and multiple media outlets are reporting that a bi-state commission approved a joint settlement agreement among the two states, a power company and a public utility.

McMaster, who brought the lawsuit over Catawba water use in 2007,  says the new agreement is a model of regional cooperation for the future for other states.

It’s been three years since the state of South Carolina filed suit in the U.S. Supreme Court against North Carolina over the amount of water being drawn out of the Catawba and Yadkin Rivers.

McMaster said the court case will continue until the settlement is finalized.
