North Charleston gives first approval for casino boats

North Charleston City Council gave its first approval to bring in casino boats to the city. Mayor Keith Summey says the boats, that would sail from the former Navy Base complex on the Cooper River, would bring in the bucks:

“We believe that there is somewhere between $700,000 and a million and a half a year that would come in direct revenue,” says Summey.

Casino games, dining and other forms of entertainment would be on the casino boats. Although gambling is not allowed currently under South Carolina law, the boats would sail out to international waters, about three miles from the coast. The boats would start as early as this winter, if approved in the second and final hearings.
