Ozone warning for Upstate

The Department of Health and Environmental Control says conditions are likely for increased ground-level ozone concentrations in the Upstate Tuesday.  The Ozone Action Day affects the following counties: Abbeville, Anderson, Cherokee, Greenville, Greenwood, Laurens, Oconee, Pickens, Spartanburg and Union.

When ozone levels are elevated, children and adults as well as people with respiratory diseases, such as asthma, should limit prolonged outdoor exertion. Ground-level ozone is formed when hot, dry, stagnant weather conditions exist. When that happens, emissions from vehicles contribute to the formation of ground-level ozone. DHEC officials say you can help to reduce ozone emissions by staying in at lunch, avoiding excessive vehicle idling and using mass transit.

Upstate residents are being cautioned about ozone conditions Tuesday.
