Hurricane experts are saying this year’s hurricane season may bring some exceptionally strong storms. Governor Mark Sanford says he doesn’t plan to take any chances. Gov. Sanford will travel to the coast today to meet with both state and local emergency officials to discuss South Carolina’s preparedness for the 2010 hurricane season. The governor will hold news conferences in three cities to talk about the state’s plans to cover potential evacuations or a severe landfall.

Sanford will be at the M.L. Brown office in Conway at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, followed by a noon appearance at the Hamilton Public Safety Building in North Charleston and a 2:00 p.m. press conference at the Law Enforcement Center in Beaufort.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is predicting an active season… saying they expect up to 23 named storms.
