The Northwestern Trojans begin the 2014 season where they left off last year, as the #1 team in the state. Northwestern received all but one first place vote in route to their spot atop the first OTS Sports Network Poll of the year. The Trojans return all-time SC receiving leader Dupree Hart, who will be the leader of this team this year. Northwestern is joined in the poll by rival South Pointe, who after dropping down to 3A, still checks in as the 5th best team in the state. Ironically, the Stallions are ranked one step lower than Goose Creek. South Pointe ended the Gators 38 game home winning streak in the 2nd round of the 4A playoffs last year. Zaylin Burris returns for his second year as quarterback for coach Strait Herron’s team. The other local team to make the top ten was the York Cougars who are #8. York exited last year in the 2nd round at the hands of the eventual state champion Northwestern Trojans. The Cougars are led by QB DeShaw Andrews, who is ranked by many as one of the top quarterbacks in the state. See below for the complete Top Ten.
