Man who fell off boat this afternoon missing in Lake Wylie

A 30-year-old man disappeared from a boat Wednesday afternoon in Lake Wylie.

Charlotte Fire Department Capt. Dennis Gist said it has become a recovery effort.

A York County dive team was called to the lake.

Charlotte Fire Department tweeted around 6:30 p.m. that it was helping with a possible water rescue.

The search was called off after dark.

The search area on Lake Wylie is 400 by 400 feet and boats were using sonar.

Officials told Channel 9’s Greg Suskin that it is a joint operation because they are not sure where the person fell out of the boat.

The man’s family was assisting with the recovery efforts.
