Children’s home co-founder, Winthrop campus minister, dies
The man who co-founded the Children’s Attention Home and was known for his community service and advocacy has died.
Bob Porterfield passed away early this morning at the age of 82 after battling cancer for several years.
45 years ago Porterfield was joined by other pastors to start the Children’s Attention Home for abused, neglected and abandoned children.
Not long ago Porterfield was honored nationally by the Angels in Adoption group.
Porterfield also spent many years as the minister for Winthrop University’s Baptist Student Union.
Greene Funeral Home is handling arrangements with Porterfield’s family, and will meet with them this afternoon or tomorrow morning.
