Freda Hat Trick Leads Women’s Soccer Past Brevard 10-1
ROCK HILL, SC- Senior Krystyna Freda had three goals and two assists to lead the Winthrop women’s soccer team past Brevard 10-1 on Friday night at Eagle Field. The Eagles improve to 1-2 on the year, while the match was an exhibition for the Tornados. Freda is now just four goals away from becoming the Big South Conference’s all-time leading scorer.
Winthrop started the attack early with Freda hitting the crossbar just 28 seconds into the match. Freshman Zoe Conover hit a strike from 18 yards out which looked like it was going in, but hit the post and was collected by Brevard goalkeeper Jocelyn Springer. Freda finally broke through in the 21st minute after she finished a pass from Conover. Conover ran onto a through ball from Megan David, dribbled 20 yards into the 18 yard box and passed it off to Freda who shot on a wide open net. Freda scored again just six minutes later, scoring on a wide open net after Taylor Walton ran on to a through ball from Courtney McLeod and passed it across the face of goal. Freda got her hat trick after Grace Radler played a free kick over the top and Freda put away from 10 yards out in the 52nd minute.
Senior Devin Puckett nabbed two goals, first in the 63rd minute off a through ball from Freda, then in the 89th minute when she put away a blocked shot by Emily Crick. Taylor Walton, Olivia Costello, Sam Prytulak and Zoe Conover finished out the scoring for the Lady Eagles with Conover, Prytulak and Costello earning their first career goals for Winthrop.
The Eagles have a six day rest before hosting Alabama A&M next Saturday, September 6, at 4:00 p.m.
