ROCK HILL, SC–Winthrop men’s golf coach Kevin Pendley has lined up a competitive schedule for 2014-15 that includes five new events and a spring tournament to Southern California.

The Eagles will open the year with a trip to Sugar Grove, IL to compete in the Northern Intercollegiate (Sept. 5-7), hosted by Northern Illinois and the first of five first-time events on the schedule. The other four new tournaments include the David Toms Intercollegiate (Oct. 4-5), hosted by LSU in Baton Rouge, LA; the Jones Invitational (Feb. 23-24), hosted by Pepperdine University in Valencia, CA; the General Hackler Invitational (Mar. 8-10), hosted by Coastal Carolina in Myrtle Beach; and the Gary Koch Invitational (April 6-7), co-hosted by Auburn and Kentucky in Gastonia, NC.

The four tournaments that Winthrop will pay return visits to include the Rees Jones Collegiate (Sept. 21-23), co-hosted by UNC Wilmington and Kennesaw State at Daufuskie Island, SC; the Wendy”s Kiawah Classic (Nov. 2-4), hosted by Charleston Southern at Kiawah Island; the SeaBest Invitational (Feb. 2-3), hosted by Jacksonville University at the world famous TPC Sawgrass Players Tournament Course in Ponte Vedra, FL; and the UNC Wilmington Seahawk Intercollegiate (Mar. 29-30) in Wilmington.

“We are very excited about our schedule and the upcoming season,” says Pendley. “We are returning to some events that have been on our schedule for a few years but have added some outstanding new events on great golf courses. Our goal is to prepare our squad for postseason play and we believe this schedule will do that. Playing in different areas of the country with different grasses and conditions as well as the quality of the fields and courses will prepare our team for what it will face in postseason.”
