Two York County social service agencies now have much healthier bank accounts. The Palmetto Pregnancy Center and the Adult Enrichment Center of Rock Hill both received checks late Thursday from the Good Folks of York County.
The group holds a fundraiser each December and has collected $76,000 in pledges over the last several months.
The Good Folks of York County presented the Palmetto Pregnancy Center with a check for $47,036; the group handed the Adult Enrichment Center with a check for $28,979.
“The Palmetto Pregnancy Center board of directors and staff were thrilled to be one of the recipients of the Gold Folks grant,” said executive director Trudy Laub “When we realized the Good Folks were providing enough money to purchase the ultrasound machine and provide the extensive training for our RNs, now that was a miracle, a God touch through the Good Folks of York County.”
Joining the Good Folks of York County board members and Laub were Frieda Price, executive director of the Adult Enrichment Centers, and the staff and board members of each non-profit group.
Good Folk’s 2014 president Sula Pettibon said the group has been in existence for more than 25 years and had its most successful fundraising campaign in 2013. She said that she and her board members were determined to continue the tradition and to try to do as well this year as they did last year.
“We know that there will always be a need to reach out to support others who are in difficult situations,” Pettibon added. “However, this county is filled with ‘good folks,’ who will step up when called upon, and that’s why this is a great place in which to work and to live.”
