Rock Hill police believe they have found the body of a woman reported missing this week.
The woman was found at the Market at Cherry Plaza shopping center on North Cherry Road Tuesday afternoon.
Investigators confirmed her identity Wednesday morning as that of Laurie O’Berry, 52.
Family members reported O’Berry missing Monday, Rock Hill Police spokesman Mark Bollinger said, but she was last seen by her family Friday.
Officers learned that her bicycle was chained outside a Subway restaurant and embarked on a “foot search” behind the strip mall.
No “outward” signs of foul play are suspected in Berry’s death, Bollinger said, but detectives are probing the incident as if it were suspicious. An autopsy is still pending.
Investigators usually wait about 48 hours before probing a missing persons report for an adult absent of any known health problems, Bollinger said. “We’ll put a full-court press on if there are medical issues, mental health issues, or Alzheimer’s.”
Silver Alerts are occasionally issued when elderly adults are reported missing.
“There are people who go missing sometimes,” Bollinger said. “They know where they are, they just don’t want their family to know where they are.”
