A 74-year-old Fort Mill man was injured after an ambulance struck his car while paramedics were responding to a call Wednesday, according to Lance Cpl. Gary Miller of the S.C. Highway Patrol.
The crash happened just after 7 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 521 and Marvin Road. .The man driving a Kia SUV pulled onto U.S. 521 from a business when a Lancaster County EMS ambulance ran a red light and struck the SUV, causing it to overturn and hit a telephone pole. The ambulance was responding to a call with its lights and siren on. The driver of the Kia was taken by ambulance to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, Miller said. The driver and passenger in the ambulance were unharmed.
No charges will be filed against the ambulance driver because the vehicle had its lights and sirens on while responding to a call.
