Winthrop Extends President’s Contract

The President of Winthrop University was given a contract extension late thursday afternoon. The Board of Trustees made the action unanimously keeping Dr.Edward Serna on board for another 6 years. Winthrop Board Chair Joel Hamilton said that Serna has taken the University from post Covid years and seen an increase in enrollment of over 2,000 students as well as additional programs, giving is higher and good financial standing. He added that Winthrop has become a true solution for workforce and economic development in this community and acorss the state under Serna’s leadership. The man himself was humble and grateful, but also credited his team and cabinet around him. Serna is a Winthrop alumn and was hired to be president of the school back in 2022.
