Catawbas resolve lawsuit with Sky Boat Gaming

The Charlotte Business Journal reports the Catawba Nation has resolved its dispute with developer Wallace Cheves and Sky Boat Gaming over its financial stake in the Catawbas’ Two Kings Casino. This paves the way for a June 7 groundbreaking on the full casino project in Kings Mountain.
In making the announcement, the Catawbas say that phase one of the $700 million casino resort would open in early 2026 and includes a so-called ‘introductory casino’ with 1,350 electronic gaming machines, 12 table games, a 40-seat restaurant and a sportsbook area.
Regulators have had the business relationship between the Catawbas and Sky Boat Gaming under scrutiny for years, which has stalled construction on the new casino.
The Catawbas did not disclose details of their settlement with Sky Boat Gaming saying only that the deal removed Sky Boat “from any interest in the project.”
