KEVIN TOLSON – 2022 / WRHI NEWS

York County Sheriff Kevin Tolson said Monday he intends withdraw from the 2024 election. His wife, Beth, has filed to run for the seat.

Beth Tolson, the 53-year-old daughter of former Sheriff and S.C. Representative Bruce Bryant, filed for the office just before the noon cutoff on April 1. Beth Tolson has worked as a deputy and investigator for 32 years, first in the Sheriff’s office, then as an investigator for the 16th Circuit Solicitor’s office after her husband Kevin was elected in 2016.

Sheriff Kevin Tolson told WRHI News that his decision came last week when he was approached by US LEAP, a nationwide non-profit that assists law enforcement when there’s been an incident involving a police officer or department.

“It has been my honor to serve this community,” said Kevin Tolson. Sheriff Tolson will remain sheriff through the end of his term. Beth Tolson is running unopposed in the November election.

Kevin Tolson and Beth Tolson will appear on the WRHI’s Palmetto Mornings at 8:30 AM on Tuesday, April 2.
