State revenue director resigns
The director of the South Carolina Department of Revenue says he will step down in order to join a law firm next year.
Ray Stevens has led the department since his appointment by Governor Mark Sanford in 2006. Prior to that, he was a judge on the state’s Administrative Law Court for 10 years.
Stevens said he plans to join the Parker Poe Adams, & Bernstein firm on January 1. The firm says Stevens will be a part of its State & Local Tax (SALT) practice.
Stevens has also served on the state Tax Realignment Commission and was chairman of the SC Enterprise Council. His successor will be chosen by incoming governor Nikki Haley.
Parker Poe Adams, & Bernstein offers legal advice for corporate finance, litigation, real estate, and regulatory matters. Stevens will work in the firm’s Columbia office.
