Law enforcement warns motorists of busy weekend

It’s known as the busiest traveling weekend of the year–Thanksgiving weekend. Highway Patrol spokesman Corporal Paul Brouthers wants to remind motorists on the busy roads–

To make sure your vehicle has been properly serviced before you decide to travel. Give yourself plenty of time to get where you are going because they can expect to see a lot of congestion on the major routes like I-95, I-26 and the US highways.

Brouthers says in the years past, as well as this year, they look for three violations specifically that stand out–among others.

Driving under the influence, speeding, and operating without seat belts are always going to be a major concern for law enforcement throughout the area. Not to mention the fact that on Friday, with the Black Friday shopping there will be a lot of local congestion in the shopping districts, in the urban areas.

With the recent protests concerning the Transportation Security Administration’s new security measures involving airport scanners and pat downs, Brouthers says they may see more cars on the roads.

Well, I’m certain there will be folks changing their mind about flying and probably driving instead just to avoid the inconvenience of the TSA and other security measures being set up at airports. So, with that in mind, the Highway Patrol along with our local law enforcement partners will be out in force beginning Wednesday afternoon and hard at it throughout the holiday period ending Sunday at midnight.
