In the third and final ETV televised gubernatorial debate between GOP candidate Nikki Haley and Democrat Vincent Sheheen Tuesday night in Florence, the candidates sparred on a number of issues including the funding of the I-73 project.

The proposed interstate highway would stretch from Northern Michigan to the Grand Strand. The candidates agreed that the highway would be an economic boon for the state but disagreed how the project should be funded.

Haley says South Carolina’s portion should not be funded in part by making the highway a toll road. Sheheen argued that in funding a project as important as I-73, everything including making the highway a toll road, should be put on the table.
