Chester native and former Gamecock gets a head coaching job for HBCU

A Chester native and former South Carolina women’s basketball player is getting another chance to be a head coach. Olivia Gaines has been hired to coach the Allen University women’s team. The HBCU is just miles from where Gaines players with the Gamecocks where she was a two time SEC Champion. Most recently, Gaines was an assistant with Georgia Southern and also had head coaching stints at a JUCO college in Virginia, Richard Bland which she led to a national runner up finish and also with USC Salkehatchie. She was also a successful head coach in the high school ranks at Andrew Jackson and Fort Dorchester. She has six seasons of 20+ wins as a head coach. Gaines takes over an Allen womens basketball program that was 12-15 last year and 7-12 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
