Winthrop’s Powell Named Big South Women’s Basketball Player Of The Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Winthrop forward Paige Powell has been named the Big South Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Nov. 28-Dec. 4, the Conference office announced today.
In two games, Powell averaged nearly a double-double with 12.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game on 11-of-21 shooting (=52.4 percent) overall. On Saturday, the graduate student powered Winthrop to a 61-38 home victory with 14 points and 16 rebounds against South Carolina State – both career-highs – finishing 6-of-11 from the field and racking up 12 offensive boards, two blocks and a steal. Two days prior, Powell went 5-of-10 and scored 10 points with three rebounds on the road at UNC Wilmington. She averaged 30.5 minutes of action per contest on the week.
