Winthrop could be a smoke free campus as soon as 2017.

On last week’s Straight Talk program, Manning Kimmel spoke with Dave Keely Vice president of Tobacco Free York County Coalition who said he has already spoken with Winthrop president Dan Mahony about his proposal.

Mahoney is awaiting an update from the Winthrop University Wellness Council on their recommendation for going tobacco free.  The recommendation will then be taken to  the Winthrop leadership council before any decision is made.

The University of South Carolina, Clemson and Coastal Carolina have all gone tobacco free in the past few years.  Keely thinks Winthrop could  join them as soon as July 1, 2017.
