The future of a proposed bridge over the Catawba River north of I-77 seems to be in question after transportation planners decided Friday to halt future research on the bridge that would connect Mount Gallant Road in Rock Hill with Sutton Road in Fort Mill.

State Representative Ralph Norman led the motion to turn down the proposal, saying it just was not the right fix for a growing York County.

Norman, who is also a local developer, says he owns a significant amount of land that could have benefited from a future bridge.

Norman, was backed by other state lawmakers, says the project would have locked up a great deal of funding that could put future road projects in limbo.
