The York County Economic Development Board and the Rock Hill Economic Development Corporation today agreed to seek 15-thousand dollars each to study property along the I-77 corridor to see if it can be developed for future business use.

RHEDC executive director Stephen Turner explains the reason for the initiative.

Turner says he’ll seek his entity’s share of the money from the Rock Hill City Council. YCEDB director Mark Farris says he’ll do likewise with the York County Council.

Turner says much of the property along I-77 outside Rock Hill has been developed over the last ten years.

Both Farris and Turner say they’ll seek at least some funding from their respective county and city councils. Farris says because of York County’s exploding growth, local leaders haven’t planned appropriately to find potential future industrial and commercial property.
