Winthrop SID: Kelsey and AD have a shared past

Winthrop University has hired a new men’s basketball coach.  Former Xavier and Wake Forest assistant coach Pat Kelsey has been selected to succeed Randy Peele.

Winthrop’s associate athletic director for media relations Jack Frost says Athletics Director Tom Hickman was familiar with Kelsey when he was with the Demon Deakins.

Frost says Kelsey was the cream of the crop among the 80 or so applicants for the Winthrop job.  Frost says he talked with Kelsey at length Thursday about what style of play to expect.

Kelsey will be officially introduced as Winthrop’s new mens basketball coach next week.
