Authorities are praising the owners of a local pharmacy who, following three robberies in three weeks in 2009, upgraded their video surveillance system — in what may give police the upper hand in catching a man who broke in Monday.

Just after 3:45 in the morning, police say a black man grabbed a ladder behind Good Pharmacy on Ebenezer Road and made his way in through a round vent just below the roof, coming down an attic stairwell and raiding a cabinet full of narcotics.

Rock Hill Police Lt. Brent Allmon says the video of the incident will go a long way towards nabbing a suspect.

Allmon says that for video surveillance systems — like the one at Good Pharmacy — to be effective, the cameras need to be placed in locations where the suspect’s face is clearly visible.

Police say Monday morning’s burglary was extensively planned, as the suspect was in and out of the building in around 30 seconds and he knew exactly where the narcotics were stored.
