With standing room only, representatives from Morning Star Ministries proposed their plan to refurbish the Fort Mill towers for the second time at last night’s York county Council meeting. Morning Star’s CEO, Rick Joyner, recently threatened to sue York County if leaders did not accept their proposal to renovate an incomplete Fort Mill High rise.

In 2007, the 21-story building was facing demolition, but Morning Star Ministries took over the building with a plan to restore it. The county gave Morning Star a deadline to prove they could financially support the project, but the county says they have yet to hold up their end of the agreement. Last night, the organization insisted that it wasn’t their lack of ability, but the county’s impatience that prevented their development project from progressing effectively, causing the project to lose support.

Joyner now says this project is impossible if they are at war and looks to build a new trust with the county so the project can move forward. He asked council members to take back their statement.

Morningstar Ministries hopes to renovate the 21-story building into a spiritual retirement community by 2017.
