Carowinds opens for the 2012 season this weekend  and Friday park officials held a preview for the media and park VIPs for the unveiling of the 301-foot tall WindSeeker.

[media-credit id=18 align=”alignright” width=”300″][/media-credit]The 6.5-million dollar attraction takes up to 64-passengers per run at speeds upwards of 30 miles per hour.

York County Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Bennish Brown says the WindSeeker– which was built on the South Carolina side of the park —  adds to the county’s bottom line.

Carowinds Vice President and General Manager Bart Kinsel says he’s hoping to capitalize on the 30-thousand delegates coming to the Carolinas the first week of September for the Democratic National Convention.

Friday’s first public viewing of the WindSeeker is the third new addition to the park in three years.

The Dale-Earnhardt-inspired Intimidator launched in the spring of 2010,  Snoopy’s Starlight Spectacular opened last year and the WindSeeker officially opens to the public on Saturday.
