Convicted murderer mistakenly released from York County Jail
York County Sheriff’s Deputies say an error in processing Monday led to the mistaken release of an inmate at the Moss Justice Center.
Sheriff’s Office Lt. Mike Baker says that 31-year-old Thomas Whitlock was mistakenly released from the center and the error wasn’t realized until early Tuesday afternoon. Whitlock was being held at the Moss Justice Center on drug related charges. He was convicted of murder in 2009 in North Carolina.
Deputes say the mistake was discovered while making arrangements to transfer Whitlock to a prison in Windsor, North Carolina.
Windsor is a black man, 31 years of age, 5-feet 11-inches tall weighing 144 pounds.
Sheriff Bruce Bryant has initiated a comprehensive investigation into how the error occurred; information will be forthcoming when the investigation is complete.
Sheriff Bryant warns that the public should not approach Whitlock; anyone with information on the possible location of Whitlock should contact the Sheriff’s Office immediately at 803-628-3059.
