York County Republican Party Chairman Glenn McCall says he’s shocked and surprised that Newt Gingrich won South Carolina’s GOP presidential primary Saturday.

McCall says he thought Mitt Romney would pull it out at the end.

Winthrop University political science professor Doctor Scott Huffmon also says he thought Romney would win a close race in the Palmetto State.

Not only did Gingrich win South Carolina decisively, he also won in York County.

Elections and Registration Commission results show that Gingrich got more than 38-percent of the vote in York County, while Rick Santorum received 24 percent and Romney just under 23 percent.
