Mecklenburg County medical examiners have yet to release a cause of death for former Channel 9 television reporter who died early Wednesday morning.

Ward died just a week after he left his job at WRHI’s television partner WSOC-TV to take a job for Tampa, Florida station WFTS next week.

Ward and his wife and son were set to make the move with him.

WSOC-TV general manager Joe Pomilla said Wednesday the station has no information as to the cause of his death — other than the Medical Examiner’s statement that a cause has not yet been determined.

Ward was a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity and a longtime member of the Charlotte Area Association of Black Journalists. He was 44.
