Former University of South Carolina president Andrew Sorensen has died. Sorensen, who was president of the school from 2002 to 2008, died suddenly at his home in Ohio where he was serving as the chief fundraiser of Ohio State University.

Among his achievements, Sorensen developed the ‘Innovista’ research and development campus outline, formed a community advising council to improve relations between Columbia residents and the university, and, among others, hired football coach Steve Spurrier and the school’s current president, Harris Pastides. Sorensen was 72.
