Sumter County Airman dies in Afghanistan

The U.S. Department of Defense says a Sumter County airman assigned to a squadron out of Altus Air Force Base in Oklahoma has died while serving in Afghanistan. Andrew Bubacz, age 23,  of Dalzell died Friday in Nuristan, Afghanistan. Bubacz was assigned to the 97th Communications Squadron. He reportedly died from head injuries he suffered while maintaining a communications tower at a forward operating base. An investigation into his death is ongoing. Bubacz had been deployed to Afghanistan as a member of a provincial reconstruction team.
