This week, you can pre-register for the 2012 PGA Championship on Kiawah Island in Charleston, the largest single sporting event in South Carolina. Kiawah 2012 PGA Championship President Roger Warren says the golf event will be seen in more than 190 countries around the world and will boost the state’s economy.
It’s going to give the area, the Lowcountry, Charleston, Kiawah a lot of great exposure to a lot of people who may not know about us at this point. Since our number one industry in this state is tourism, we think it’s going to be a huge economic impact beyond the direct $84 million people are going to spend when they are here.
Although the championship is not until 2012, Kiawah Island, voted the best island in America, is getting ready for the big event. Warren says all this week they have had samples and previews of the entities at the biggest sporting event in state history.
We’re very excited about it on a lot of levels, with exposure for the community, but also the opportunity for the people that love golf here in the Lowcountry to see one of the four Majors, the final Major of the year and it’s got the strongest feel of all the Majors, the best players. We are just thinking it’s going to be a great experience for everyone.
Tickets go on sale Monday at pga2012.com. The 2012 PGA Championship on Kiawah Island is August 9-12.
