Three Greenville County children suffered injuries Tuesday morning when escaping a fire in their mobile home. The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office says the doors were padlocked and the children were forced to break a window in the back of the home to escape. Investigators are looking into why the doors were even padlocked, and why the children were not in school. The fire started about 9 a.m., and the children were ages 9, 16 and 13.

The 9-year-old suffered smoke inhalation, the 13-year-old was cut by the broken glass and the 16-year-old was taken to the hospital as a precaution, deputies said.

Investigators believe the mother left to take her boyfriend to work when the fire broke out. They said that a pan left on a stove may have been the source of the fire.
