A river in Marlboro County is safe to enter, according to the state Department of Health and Environmental Control. DHEC ended a water advisory on the Great Pee Dee River Tuesday after it said lab results showed the water quality met its standards. The agency shut down an area from Tom Blue’s Landing to the Highway 34 bridge last week after untreated wastewater from a flooring company spilled into the river.

The advisory had said people and pets should stay out of the river until testing was complete. The advisory was first ordered after wastewater breached a dike at Mohawk Industries in Bennettsville. The agency gave the all-clear after saying no waste has seeped into the Great Pee Dee since last Thursday.
