A tuition increase approved in June by Clemson University trustees is being rolled back after a Friday vote, in order to avoid a state-imposed ban on construction at public colleges in South Carolina that raised tuition by more than 7 percent.

According to the news release, the 7.5 percent increase in undergraduate, in-state spring tuition will now be 7 percent.

President James Barker says the building moratorium adopted by the State Budget and Control Board on September 29 has put two projects–an addition to Freeman Hall and the renovation of a research facility at Greenville Hospital System–on hold. School officials say neither project is funded through undergraduate tuition.
