A mandate for the newly-restructured state Department of Employment and Work Force is to help connect more people with jobs.

The department is reaching out to military veterans by holding a  free job fair at the USS Yorktown Naval and Maritime Museum in Charleston today. Participating employers include Nucor Steel, Honeywell International, Cummins Turbo Tech, the City of North Charleston, and the College of Charleston.

The workshop will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with experts giving  advice to veterans of the armed services in landing their next job. In addition there will be workshops on veteran health care and benefits and free guided tours of the USS Yorktown and the Charleston.

Jim Coles, area director for the SC Department of Employment and Workforce says,  “This will be an excellent opportunity to match veterans with top-notch employers.”
