No helmet law could bring more business at fall bike rally

This year is the first year the fall bike rally in Myrtle Beach is without a helmet law. Nearby business owners hope the elimination of the law will bring in more bikers, creating more business.

“The Pilgrimage” rally that runs through this week in Myrtle Beach has never brought in as many bikers or business to the area as the spring bike rallies have. However, since city council outlawed a helmet law in city limits, business owners hope the changes will convince more bikers to ride into the area.

The 2008 prohibition was struck down in June that required bikers to wear a helmet. The original law was put into effect because residents complained about rowdy behavior associated with the bike rally crowds. The ordinance resulted in a boycott from biker groups and concerns from local retailers who were suffering through the recession.

The Sun News reports they have already spoken to some area business owners and those owners say they have already seen an increase in business. The fall rally ends on October 3.
