York County Economic Development Interim Director says area has strong economic footing despite numbers of job loss in 2024.
Companies in the Rock Hill region say more layoffs happened last year than any year since the pandemic started. The numbers were confirmed to the state commerce department as most large companies aiming to cut jobs normally have to file a worker adjustment and retraining notifications or WARN. Five of those notices in 2024 combined to show 475 workers were layed off across the Tri-County. The region of Rock Hill had 950 losses in 2020. In an interview with the Herald, York County Economic Development interim Director Mitch Miller says the majority of the losses stemmed from Stanley Black and Decker along with McKesson Medical Surgical which made changes to its organization. He adds they do not point to a broader economic trend. Miller also says York County is in strong economic footing
