According to the South Carolina Department of Public Health, two dogs and two cats were exposed to a rabid skunk in York County. Per a news release, the skunk was found in Sharon near Sherer and Jack Wilson Roads…it was then put in for lab testing earlier this month and tested positive for rabies. The animals exposed are set to be quarantined which is required by the state. It is not known if any people were exposed. Over the course of this year alone, South Carolina has seen 75 cases of rabies in animals. Per the Herald, South Carolina has averaged about 148 positive cases each year since 2002.
