YORK COUNTY WAIVES LANDFILL FEES FOR BRUSH, TREE DEBRIS

September 30, 2024

YORK COUNTY, SC: People across York County experienced the impact of Hurricane Helene. During the storm there were hundreds of reports of trees down. Many fell across roads, others damaged homes, cars and power lines.

Due to the large amount of debris, and to help in the lengthy recovery, York County will waive landfill fees for residents only for the next two weeks for brush, limbs, and tree debris. Typically private citizens are limited to one ton of such debris per month before a fee is added. That fee will be eliminated through October 14th

We hope this change will assist local families working hard to clean up after the storm. Even though all vehicles visiting the landfill will still need to weigh in, waiving the fees will speed up the process by shortening wait times entering and leaving.

If you are a private citizen and brought brush to the landfill on either Saturday or today (Monday) and were required to pay a fee, you are eligible for a refund. Please contact York County Finance at 803-684-8528 and choose option #3. If you have proof of payment, a refund check will be processed for you.
