Two major economic investment deals passed through at York County Council last night, both on third and final readings.
First, a longtime deal known as Project Cobra was unanimously approved. It has since been revealed as a QTS Data Center. Its projecting 1 billion dollars in investment with 12 new jobs. The deal would require a minimum of $900 million investment and 10 jobs within eight years. QTS owns property for the site in the Campbell Road and Hands Mill Highway area of Lake Wylie. Later in the meeting, Silfab Solar and Silfab Solar Cells was up for discussion. It passed 4-3 in front of council but not before much discussion. This deal will bring $150 million of investment and potential 800 new jobs. Before passing, a few amendments were made which included making the minimum pay 22 dollars per hour, insurance and some details on the fee in lieu of taxes agreement.
