As a result of his corruption convictions, the former sheriff of Chester County will likely get four years in federal prison. Alex Underwood spent seven years as the sheriff of Chester County and appeared in court this week with this two former deputies to ask for leniency to the judge. The men will be sentenced at a later date. The trio was convicted by a jury last year on nearly two dozen charges alleging they abused their powerful positions to serve themselves and cover up wrongdoings that they committed. The lawyers for Underwood were able to get his potential prison time reduced from 46-57 months. However, Underwood’s co-defendants were not as fortunate as Johnny Neal Jr faces four years while Robert Sprouse will face three. Evidence was presented that Underwood ordered deputies to build him a party barn during work hours and spy on political opponents, skimming money his deputies had earned working DUI checkpoints and illegally arresting a man who had taunted him on his porch.
