A woman fights back after attempted assault in Rock Hill

A woman was able to fight back against a man who was sexually assaulting her, firing a gun at him as he ran away, according to Rock Hill police. Officers were called around 9:45 p.m. on Monday to the scene along Automall Parkway, near Cherry Road, in reference to a shooting. When they arrived, police met with a woman who said a man attacked her as she walked down the street and tried to rape her. The woman told officers she was walking on Automall Parkway when she saw a shadow and then a man grabbed her, and they began to fight. She said the man was trying to pull her into the woods, away from the roadway. The woman told police she was able to get to her gun and start shooting at the suspect, who then ran off toward Celanese Road. It’s unknown if any of the shots struck the assailant.
