An active search is underway for a missing 73 year old man in Lake Wylie. Investigators say they responded to Copperhead Island on Soldier Road Wednesday evening. The man is a long time resident of the lake and was last seen at the boat launch of Copperhead Island. His empty boat was found nearby, according to officials. Charlotte Mecklenberg police along with the Steele Creek Fire Department are handling the investigation. York County deputies are investigating what they describe as a “possible drowning” in Lake Wylie, after a body was found near the South Carolina-North Carolina state line. The body was found on the South Carolina side of the lake south of the Buster Boyd Bridge. As of this morning, officials in both states had not confirmed the identity or cause of death of the person found in the lake Friday morning according to York County Sheriff’s P.I.O. Trent Faris.
