The community has responded with its wallets after four York County law enforcement officers were shot in a violent confrontation with a domestic violence suspect January 16.

York County Sheriff’s Office Detective Mike Doty was killed during the ambush and shootout on South Paraham Road near the town of York.

Three officers, deputies Buddy Brown and Randy Clinton and York Police Officer Kyle Cummings, were wounded.  But what is helping everyone heal a little bit is hearing that tens of thousands of dollars were raised for Doty’s family and three other officers.

It came without a big ceremony, but with great appreciation, in Rock Hill Thursday morning from Sheriff Tolson, York Police Chief Andy Robinson, and Detective Doty’s parents.

The three officers who were hurt are still recovering.  The group has raised $74,200 to be split four ways.
